My Supremes: 50th Anniversary Celebration Magazine out on December 8th!

New York — December 8 will see the official release of the full-color magazine “50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION / MY SUPREMES / MARY WILSON” (Event Bookazines / Hudson News). The 128-page publication, edited by best-selling author Mark Bego, is a lavish and exciting remembrance of the top-selling female singing group of all time: The Supremes. The magazine will be available at Barnes & Nobel, Target, Walmart, Hudson News shops and wherever magazines are sold.

The Supremes were an American female singing group and the premiere act of Berry Gordy’s Motown Records during the entire decade of the 1960s. Originally founded as The Primettes in Detroit, Michigan in 1959, The Supremes’ repertoire included pop, soul, rock & roll, Broadway show tunes, psychedelic soul, and disco. They were the most commercially successful of Motown’s acts and are, and to date they are America’s most successful vocal group with 12 Number One singles on the “Billboard” Hot 100. Most of these hits were written and produced by Motown’s main songwriting and production team, Holland–Dozier–Holland. At their peak in the mid-1960s, the Supremes rivaled The Beatles in worldwide popularity.

Mary Wilson’s career has continued to prosper with a series of well received solo albums, the most recent being “Life’s Been Good To Me” which is due to be released in early 2013. She also wrote the New York Times best-selling memoir: “Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme” in 1986.

Best-selling author Bego, who this month also releases his 60th book (his first novel called “Murder at Motor City Records”) first came aboard this project due to his 35 year friendship with Wilson; the two have been friends for years and Bego helped her write her two memoirs. Adds Bego, “Mary and I had been talking about doing some sort of retrospective to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of the album ‘Meet The Supremes.’ When we received the offer to do this magazine, it seemed like the perfect way for us to celebrate everything Supreme!”

According to Mary Wilson, “Mark and I have worked on several projects together, and I am thrilled to celebrate the entire legacy of The Supremes in one publication. With this magazine we were able to salute every one of The Supremes, our entire history, every one of our albums, and all of the group’s incarnations from the 1960s to the 1970s—and beyond. We cover several decades of wonderful memories, and of course dozens of our sequined Supremes gowns in this magazine!”

Finally, some tribute is available for SUPREMES ‘ fans. I still would like to see a Television Special with the mature SUPREMES singing the H.D.H. songs and those show tunes performed on the Ed Sullivan Show produced by Lorne Michaels or one of the Sullivan Show producers with a Hologram introduction by Ed Sullivan. Best of Luck Mary Wilson. By mature Supremes I mean the 60+ Mary, Diana, and Cindy.

  3. Neil Says:

Where will we be able to buy the magazine here in the UK?

  4. R. Mark Desjardins Says:

Bookstores stock photo tributes to the Beatles, The Rolling Stones and tons of heavy metal bands, etc, but no coffee table photo book tribute based solely on The Supremes. This publication is hopefully the first of many, as there is certainly a great interest out there for such a collection. Is this going to be available in Canada, or do I have to find a copy on Amazon? Best of luck for a total sell out edition of this Mary and Mark!

  5. Los Says:

Dearest Mary. I LOVE the magazine! I already bought four copies and am sending out copies to my international buddies who cant get them. Mark Bego however I think made a mistake that no one caught. He says you recorded “Splish Splash” during the Jimmy Webb sessions. I think he meant “Tossin and Turning”.
Love ya tons and come back to NYC!

  6. Bud Says:

Much to my surprise, Walmart had this magazine in stock here on Dec. 1st & I picked one up. Spead some of their copies of this out on thier rack so people might notice it more! Wish Mary’s new CD was out now to cross promote with this, but maybe they have something planned for the first part of the year when they “say” now it’s to be released. Also it would be nice to hear Mary mention more about the CD & maybe even perform a song or two to get interest going. If she could sing something from it on a t.v. appearance or have something played during an interview that would help generate attention that is important for sales.
The magazine is very colorful with lots of pictures. Album covers are shown for all Supremes albums from the start to the last release of the 3 CD set of “LET YOURSELF GO” from 2011. Critics might jump on the fact that this magazine about the “SUPREMES” is done from “MARY WILSON’S” vantage point, & includes mention of her work too. But when you think about it; who else could tell the complete story of the SUPREMES “but” MARY WILSON? Only she was there in the begining, through all the changes & to the end of the group. There is no one else who was there the whole time ‘but’ MARY. It only makes sense that she would be the one to tell it! The mag just covers facts & is pretty neutral. Doesn’t involve any issues. Makes a nice SUPREME keepsake.

I haven’t been over here in a long time and didn’t even know about this magazine until I saw it on the magazine rack in the grocery store..I knew automatically I was going to buy it.I did look through the magazine and see a lot of pictures.I have seen some of these pictures and some I haven’t.I am goimg through it now and it brings back a lot of memories, especially the pictures with Florence in it.While it is the ’60s Supremes I remember most,I am still interested in the ’70s Supremes.I really remember how empty I felt when I first saw The Supremes on TV without Flo.I did grow fond of Cindy Birdsong, and when Diane left, you didn’t really seem like The Supremes.I know I will really like this magazine and I hope it is a big seller.Love you always Mary.

  12. Stephen Blower Says:

When will it get a UK release date?
